The Purse Posse

 A Request From Dazey
Back to Full Blog

Frozen dinners have come a loooong way since the original t.v. dinners and potpies.  For convenience and for portion control while dieting they can’t be beat.  But let’s face it, some of them just taste terrible!  I have found a couple I like, and would love to hear from others what frozen dinners they have found yummy or repulsive.

I like Stouffers escalloped noodles and chicken, and Stouffers bistro sesame chicken, but I want to try others.  What would you recommend?

It's been a while since I tried a frozen dinner. Remember when they were called TV Dinner's? I do like the Patio Mexican dinners sometimes.

What I do if making soup, stew or chili is make extra and freeze it,for those times when the last thing I want to do is cook. Those sectional freezer containters are great for making your own frozen dinner.

I'll have to try some of those you mentioned.

Hey Dazey:

Not much into frozen dinners, but CH buys them once in awhile.
He likes the Hungry Man entrees.

I will tell you I tried the South Beach Vodka Pasta with Chicken and it was aweful, this coming from someone who eats ANYTHING...
Don't do it Dazey!

Love ya
Lucy

Thanks Belle, I'll look for those.
I'm finding it harder and harder to cook for "just" myself these days, but when I do there is always some to freeze for another time. I'm looking for some variety though, because whatever I buy fresh I try to use so I don't have to throw it away, and end up eating the same thing for a few days.

Marie Callanders (sp?) chicken pot pies are good.

Hi Lucy, I never tried one of the "Hungry Man" dinners, so I'll take a look and see what they've got. Those are bigger though, and I usually don't even finish the smaller ones.
Thanks for the warning about the South Beach vodka chicken! If Lucy doesn't like it, it has to be bad.

Thanks, Colo! I'll give those a try! It's always a good idea to plan on getting the freezer stocked before "snow season" up here.

I hate frozen dinners but there are two exceptions. Stouffers has great selections in most of their stuff and I have found anything that Marie Callender has in the frozen sections for entree dinners or deserts are excellent. She has the absolute best potpies and they are definately portion controlled but perfect when cooking for one! I try a new one that was portebello mushroom and chicken potpie and it was divine! Banquet and Swanson both suck stale wienie dogs when it come to the stuff they present as food! YUCK!

Well try the veggies. A whole bag has 105 calories, and you can add a chicken breast with it, or shrimp, and really good.....and if you are in to the Healthy thing....awesome....

My daughter gets the frozen fajita meat and puts it in salads and tortillas etc.....

Anything that taste good is so high in carbs and fat and sodium, and if it is low in all that killer stuff, it taste like you know what.

Joey and I like most of the Healthy Choice Offerings ... I usually go for Chicken or Beef but Joey says the Seafood and Cajun things are good too ... if you like spicy.
Get back over here and eat some REAL FOOD!

Healthy Choice has some good ones. They have pepper steak and some other good ones that I can't think of right off hand, but they are really good. It's been awhile since I've had them so they may have some new ones out by now but they were always really good!

I guess its a matter of opinion but I don't like Healthy Choice, I find they don't have enough flavor.

I love Michellina's but they are high in sodium so I can't eat them often due to my blood pressure.

I also like the Weight Watchers Smart Ones, they are very tasty and are nice sized portions. Their desserts are awesome

Daze -- when I eat "frozen/tv dinners" ... it's usually "Healthy Choice".. because I like the taste - not so much that I believe it's actually "Healthy," lol..
